area and of the city in which we are found.
Agrigento is a wonderful Sicilian town and the provincial capital. It is situated
230 metres above sea level and has around 56.000 inhabitants.
Defined by Pindar as "the most beautiful city among mortals", it lies on a surface
of 245 sq.km and was the birthplace of Luigi Pirandello and of many other historical
figures. The ancient "Akragas" was founded in 581 B.C. and it briefly became one
of the most important cities of Magnae Graecia. In the following century the magnificent
temples were built. These are in the archaeological park where Hotel Villa Athena
is also found.
