Feast of Saint Calogero

From the first to the second Sunday in July, Agrigento celebrates the Feast of Saint Calogero, the monk who came to the city to convert it to Christianity.

It is an impressive celebration which unites religious faith, mysticism and local traditions.

Pilgrimages are organized, with pilgrims walking barefoot to the sanctuary.

Drums are played and stalls set up.

The statue of the “black saint” is carried in procession and in the evening there is a big torchlight parade.
